The 1913 School Shooting

Bennie Tinjum and Anna Skeim

The school shooting incident that took place on March 5, 1913 made a lasting impression on the Rosenquist family and, no doubt, on many others living in the Glyndon area at the time.  Following is some information about the shooter and his victim.

This photo of Bennie appears on a Tinjum Family Website.  (Look for the link to "Tinjum Lineage".)  He was the son of Jens and Ingeborg Tinjum.  In 1910 the family was living in Walworth Township, Becker County.  He had six brothers and three sisters.

Anna Skeim was from Norman County.  She was already a schoolteacher in 1910 and was living in Flom township with her parents, John and Ingeborg, and her older sister Martha.  This newspaper article came from a Norman Co. genealogical database.  Attempts were made to learn what happened to Anna, but no good information has turned up.  There is a listing for an Anna Rebekka Skeim on the Minnesota death certificate database.  She died in Polk County on June 11, 1951
